Astrology, for fun

♉ Taurus

Apr 20 ~ May 20 · Earth · Fixed · Ruler Venus

The bull of Taurus is said to be Zeus in disguise. Taking the form of a gleaming white bull, he carried the Phoenician princess Europa across the sea to Crete, and one story says the name Europe comes from her. The constellation is home to Aldebaran, the reddish star that marks the bull's eye, and the Pleiades, the famous little star cluster on its shoulder.

Taurus season is the heart of spring in the Northern Hemisphere, the time for plowing and planting, so the sign has long been tied to soil, growth, and abundance. Because of precession, the Sun actually spends most of these dates in front of Aries today. The astrological Taurus is a stretch of the seasonal calendar counted from the equinox, not the constellation overhead.

Taurus is traditionally described as steady and dependable: once it commits, it follows through calmly. It's also said to have a fine eye for good food, comfortable spaces, and beautiful things. As an Earth sign ruled by Venus, it is pictured as someone who values security and the pleasures of the senses.

Building something solid without rushing is the quiet charm of Taurus. Today might be a good day to slow down and really savor one small pleasure, like a favorite cup of tea.

At its best

Patient, reliable, and grounded, with a fine sense for quality. Taurus is said to see every job through to the end.
